TERMINÉ
Working and teaching with young people is an evolving process. Our work so far has proven, that different forms of work, activities outside classrooms and fieldwork significantly contribute towards qualitative teaching and knowledge, as well as develop better partnership relations among all participants in the process of teaching.
Consequently, it has been decided to:
• Explore new, active and creative methods of teaching in the classroom, field and project work
• stimulate teachers and students to introduce internationally oriented elements of curriculum
• raise public awareness of lifelong learning within European countries
• improve language teaching and learning skills
SMILE stands for School Museums Internet Learning Education. The seminars provide the resource that enables the participants to investigate Europe and what it means to be a European through visits to museums. The method has become a flexible way of addressing issues about identity and cultural heritage. The course offers learning of pedagogical skills that can be used in classroom or in the fieldwork.
Knowledge resulting from the implementation of the SMILE seminar enabled the teachers to use new skills in classrooms or in the fieldwork. These approaches alone are interesting for students and essentially contribute to larger efficiency.
Project Erasmus + KA1 SMILE was partially designed as an introduction to a more comprehensive Erasmus+KA2. Both projects were confirmed. Within framework Erasmus KA2: Education+ the international camp on European identity for students of the partnership countries will be organized in September 2016 in Bohinj, Slovenia. Workshops at camp will be carried out using the above mentioned methods. One of the organized activities will be a visit to Triglav National Park. Students will participate not only as listeners and observers, but as active researchers and demonstrators. Pedagogical material has already been prepared with the acquired knowledge from the SMILE project. It has already been published on www.euquests.eu and included in the project report.
Next was eTwinning project Reading and exploring common European homeland. Our school was the founder of the project. A working team of students and teachers has been created under the mentorship of Vilma Nečimer. eTwinning has been used as a mean of communication for exchanging of materials prepared by national teams and as virtual company. Partners presented to each other their own piece of Europe, customs and school life. Assorted fiction books were read and introduced. Our aim was to encourage reading habits. The work was published on Twin Space and it has been documented/archived. It includes PowerPoint presentations, photographs of activities, digital stories, short films, questionnaires, surveys, etc. Web forum was used for exchange of ideas used for the future Erasmus+ project work. Camp in Bohinj and eTwinning project will substantially contribute to the learning of a foreign language, developing European identity and enforcing European values. Students and teachers involved in eTwinning acquired a lot of ICT skills. In addition, first video conference was carried out.
We could say that all aims of the European Development Plan have been accomplished. Application of new internet tools and newly acquired ICT skill used in eTwinning project are, undoubtedly, added value to the project. Enthusiasm and personal satisfaction with accomplished work cannot be measured easily, but proves to be, without a doubt, a stimulation for further work and encouragement to other teachers. Ideas for two new eTwinning projects are in the process of generating.
Project SMILE will continue at school by means of European activity days for all students and workshops for gifted students with the purpose of developing civic competences.
