PROJET
TERMINÉ
The main objective of the SWAP NOW project is to provide new solutions to waste treatment, by helping to bring about a voluntary change in peoples behaviour. It aims to reduce the amount of household waste and improve the ways in which we deal with litter and fly-tipping. The project involves partners from England and Flanders who are committed to sharing their expertise in waste prevention and waste management.SWAP NOW will develop new ways of communicating with project beneficiaries on the topic of waste prevention and litter through:- Awareness raising and bringing about a behavioural change, developing innovative approaches to waste prevention.- Bringing communication on waste management in to the 21st Century by using web-based applications to engage with target groups and disseminate information. - Introducing new ways of tackling the problem of littering and fly-tipping by developing management tools that link local authorities waste strategies. Expected Results: What are the key results of the project?Activity 1:- Waste prevention advisors training- Training sessions organised for social economy initiatives- Trailer designed on home composting- 3 trailers for waste prevention information- 50 workshops - 20 participantsActivity 2:- Text messaging project to reach 1000 residents in first year- Digitals notice boards bought/rented- IOK Afvalbeheer to develop web application on DIFTAR- Management tool for complaints and a complaints centre will be established- Some partners to develop an online reporting tool for litter and fly tipping complaintsActivity 3:- Cleanliness barometer to be developed.- A sweeping plan and itinerary organised for each city/town.- Imog affiliates to place wastebins on public domain optimally and equip them with digital system.- Ideal emptying and cleaning frequences of the wastebins are implemented.- Adur District Council to undertake 10 community clean ups.- Adur to draw up neighbourhood agreementAre all partners and territories benefitting from the results?Target groups:SWAP NOW targets civilians as well as regional and local authorities and the development agencies of all the partners. Less waste means less processing costs and this has advantages for all these target groups. Workshops, information exchange, sharing of knowledge and training must allow for the partners to integrate the best expereinces in their own way of working.Beneficiaries:The indirect beneficiaries are the civilians, social enterprises, the national, regional and local authorities and the environmental agencies from other regions within the European Union. By sharing knowledge they can adopt the project's positive actions and gear them to their own waste policies. What are the effects / outcomes for the territories involved? The added value sits also in the ultimate goals of SWAP NOW: to reduce household waste and to deal with litter and flytipping. The processing of waste and the cleaning of litter is expensive. When the intended results have been achieved, savings will be made for the local authorities in the SWAP NOW area (and possible for the other EU-areas when 'best practices' will be adopted).Savings will be made for the partners as the project will bring together 'tried and tested' methods and solutions which means that partners do not need to reinvent things and repeat mistakes or develop less effective methods. Since communication and dissemination is an important part of the project, other EU-organisations will also benefit from the lessons learned.
