SCHOOL AND TEACHERS OF THE 21st CENTURY, the two-year project of the Gymnazium Česká Lípa, Žitavská 2969, příspěvková organizace, originated in connection with the creation of a concept to further develop our school. One of its components is the European Development Plan, which counts with engaging the school in the Erasmus+ Programme in the area of Mobility in Education projects. This project’s main target is to support the professional development of the school teachers, including improved knowledge of foreign languages, towards the innovation and modernization in teaching methods, thus enhancing quality in education and an increased international dimension of our school. A total of fourteen pedagogical staff were selected for the project, according to given evaluative criteria, comprising five teachers of English, two teachers of other foreign languages (German, French and Spanish), and seven teachers of general educational subjects in Science (Mathematics and Chemistry), Humanities (History and Geography), Social studies (Civil and Physical Education), and Information Technologies, so as to ensure the results have an impact on the widest spectrum of subjects taught at school. The school’s Headmistress will also participate in the Project as the representative of Management. The participants are fully qualified teachers in their fields, with a length of pedagogical practice ranging from 8-28 years, and all have experience in organized activities for students, mostly in fields of international cooperation. They are participating in the Project not only with an aim to gain better skills in their profession and methodological competence, but are also striving for better knowledge of foreign languages, the incorporation of innovative techniques in their work, the effective use of IT and other technologies in the classroom, and also to gain teaching experience abroad in order to reach a higher level of quality in their work for the benefit of their students.Activities within the framework of the Project will set off in February 2016 with linguistic preparation in English. From August 2016 until July 2018, a total of 26 Mobility activities, including 24 courses and 2 shadowing stays will be organized. The following are courses included in the framework of the Project:a) methodological courses for teachers of foreign languages – English, German, French, and Spanish - some of which will be combined with practical activities, including also job-shadowing activitiesb) English language courses focusing on the respective education field of the teacher,c) related specialized professional courses abroad,d) job-shadowing in schools abroad in order to obtain concrete experience in good practice, including in the topic of joint education (inclusion),e) a course aimed at gaining qualifications in the teaching of a further foreign language – to expand the linguistic range offered by the school.Upon completion of the Mobilities, the participants will work out methodological materials which, in the end, will be compiled into a document called A Handbook of Ideas and Examples from Abroad. They will likewise prepare sample lessons for their colleagues at school and demonstrate gained experience, methods and approaches. The transmission of the results will likewise be conducted in the form of methodological meetings in each of the involved subjects and through coverage of the Project’s activities on the school’s website and further medialization in the regional press. The participation of the School Headmistress herself guarantees the objective to apply the results of the Project into the daily pedagogical practice of the school. In this way, the acquired knowledge and skills of the participants will be further transmitted within the school, and consequently, it is assumed that they will gradually be adopted by all teachers, ensuring that the outlined targets of the Project be reached: the innovation and modernization of the School, its opening to the world and the simultaneous qualitative improvement of pedagogical practice. The acquisition of this systematic and significant foreign experience within the scope of this Project by our teachers should ensure a long-term benefit and initiate the transformation of our School into an institution that truly meets the needs and requirements of the 21st Century in Education.
