Our school is located in a socio-economically disadvantaged region and in many ways this affects learning and teaching process. From time to time we have difficulty in communicating with our students, understanding them and helping them with their problems. We experience difficulty in teaching what, how, according to whom, and in which context to the students of different readiness and levels in heterogeneous classes. We have observed that as most of our students do not have personal goals about their future, they are not eager to learn research or get knowledge. By considering that if we communicate with our students in a better way we can sense their problems, motivate them and make their learning process easier we needed such a project. By the help of this project we will be able to overcome the problems we encounter often in our classes consisted of students with varied socio-demographic frame and different skills. Accordingly, we determined the subject of our project as “ communication and teaching skills in classroom.’’ As we know, communication is quite efficient in teaching academic skills and target knowledge as well as classroom management. In classroom atmosphere, creating an effective communication first depends on the teacher as the source and his/her ability to teach effectively and his/her communication skills. By the help of this project we will gain classroom management and effective communication skills and we will be able to apply these acquisitions to our classes which are extremely important in terms of creating an efficient classroom atmosphere and minimizing the problems encountered in our classes. We are planning to study in Italy and Portugal for 6 days in each country with the attendance of total16 staff (8+8) as director and teachers. Our host partners Giovani Per L'Europa ve Bragamob are institutions that aim to develop the staff in the areas of education and teaching in Europe. Throughout the project in order to reach aimed objectives these activities and methodologies will be carried out: Standards for good teaching Learner centered etc. Curriculum centered teachers: Which type are you? Lesson methodologies Multiple Intelligences Theory Art of Teaching Helping students to develop teamwork skills Communication in the classroom Conflict resolution in the classroom Cooperative and collaborative learning Classroom management Influential language in the classroom How to use influential language patterns to promote learning and positive behavior Understand communication, explore the mind-sets of effectiveness Objectives of training activities: Developing skills and abilities of the participants Developing ‘effective communication’ skills of the participants Developing and strengthen the professional skills of the participants Providing cultural and linguistic information about effective communication Providing cultural information and cooperation between different cultures Identifying cultural exchanges in terms of seeing European culture Methodology: Audio-Visual Presentations Brainstorming Small Group Discussions Problem-Solving Activities Role-Playing Reflective Inquiry Simulations Demonstration By applying the new techniques and methods learned during the course, we will improve classroom management productivity and contribute both our professional careers and education process of students. We will be able to model, teach, encourage and establish social skills like intercultural consciousness and respect. Meeting foreign culture and foreign people, discovering new places and having new experiences will give us opportunity of living Europe and its cultural life and this will enlighten our personal knowledge, as well. We will support the students to learn by themselves in the way of applying, inquiring and gaining experience; and we will have chance to act the methods and techniques that known in common but improbable to act practically. We will rise up the needed properties of the students like self-confidence, inquisitive enthusiasm, qualification of achieving alone and being productive, in this way we will be able to teach how to learn. Thanks to the knowledge, skills and functions directly gained by our participants and indirectly by our students, social and academic prestige of our school will raise. With the help of dissemination activities the teachers of the district schools will meet the European Union culture and its education system, as well.
