Greenhouse crop constitutes a dynamic facet of the primary sector of the economy. Especially nowadays, that Greek Agriculture faces multiple structural problems; greenhouse crop can be seen both as an alternative and as an important factor of creating new work opportunities. In order to achieve greenhouse crop sustainable development, it is necessary to adopt techniques and technologies adapted to the protection of natural environment and to the sustainability of agricultural ecosystems, for which research and education are needed. For this reason we submit the project on “Modern Greenhouse Construction and Integrated Management of Greenhouse Crops”, in order to be educated on the development and implementation of techniques, systems and equipment for the construction, heating (geothermal energy, biomass, infrared radiation, etc.), ventilation, automated management systems using PLS and GSM modem to control information and disruptions of the greenhouse systems (heating, ventilation, lubrication, mist), and the integrated management of a modern greenhouse that aims at the effective and profitable production, which is economically viable and environmentally responsible. Thus, we propose the movement of 12 teachers from two adjacent Vocational Schools of Orestiada and Didimotiho to Valencia, Spain, in order to achieve their education on this interesting and extremely important part of current reality in the field of contemporary technologies application in the construction and operation of a greenhouse, as well as in the integrated crop management that requires organization, education and expertise. The teachers that are proposed to participate in the project are specialized in the fields of: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer, Agriculture, Economics and Management. All teachers have over 10 years of teaching experience and they teach theoretical and especially laboratory courses at relevant specialization classes of their schools. The non-updated existing curriculum and the absence of training opportunities and of opportunities to familiarize with the technology of manufacturing modern greenhouses adapted to local environmental conditions, with the application of greenhouse heating methods based on shallow geothermal energy and geothermal heating pumps, with the development and implementation of automated systems that manage heating, ventilation, fertigation, mist etc, as well as the need of the region for integrated management and certification of agricultural products necessitate that Vocational Education/Training staff is properly trained and qualified . For the implementation of the project, seminars will be held by qualified personnel, under the care of the host institution in collaboration with scientific institutions in the region of Valencia, Spain. Moreover, educational visits to regional greenhouses will be realized so that the teachers get trained on the implementation of the abovementioned technologies. This mobility action will last 10 days and is scheduled to be implemented within the first ten days of March 2015, when there is intense activity in greenhouse cropping. On the completion of the mobility, each teacher will seek to create a lesson plan on the technologies experienced and on the integrated management systems, depending on his/her specialization and on the curriculum, either in a theoretical or laboratory lesson, and then he/she will publish the results. So this plan aims to carry the acquired knowledge and experience to Vocational and Technical Education, given the fact that, in an agricultural region like ours, it is necessary to train the youth to shift to the intensification of agricultural production, incorporating beneficial natural processes into contemporary farming practices, using advanced technology and aiming at the minimization of environmental risks. Upon completion of the project, a workshop will be organized for the dissemination and diffusion of the results to a wider audience engaged in agricultural production and in the long term we hope that our students will develop modern greenhouse farming, stimulating the local economy. Furthermore, as part of their cultural preparation, they will perform visits to attractions of the surrounding area.
