PROJET
TERMINÉ
Aim: To to bring disabled and disadvantaged able- bodied young people together from 4 countries and identify, what if any, are the similar barriers the young people experience to employment or developing their own social enterprise and how these barriers can be overcome.
Both groups of young people have experienced barriers to employment either because of their disability or because of their social or economic disadvantage . Some of this prejudice will be because of attitudes and misinformed opinion of employers or organisations whilst other barriers will be structural [ the state system is balanced to ensure they do not fully participate in employment, or perhaps being in employment means that they are no better off than if they were not in employment .
Objectives
To understand the different barriers both groups of young people experience in accessing the wider employment market and look at ways of braking these barriers that will be mutually beneficial to both groups.
To break the isolation and misunderstanding between those living in a society that is primarily geared towards able bodied and help them to understand how disability can be socially constructed and therefore by the inverse be socially deconstructed and allow more disabled people to benefit from being more included in society.
Activities
The programme will be a mixture of formal and informal learning . It will incorporate visits and presentations to independent living projects and supported employment projects . It will also incorporate sessions about social enterprises that either work with disabled people or that are managed by disabled people. All sessions will be in English with support workers interpreting if necessary.
Dates 22-30 August 2015
Countries Involved Romania, Belarus, Ukraine and Scotland
The activities will be a mixture of informal learning sessions as well as visits to other volunteering projects and social enterprises which have been established and managed by disabled people
Practical arrangements
The exchange took place at Pitlochry Centre 130 miles outside of Glasgow . The centre is fully equipped for disabled access and has a capacity for 52 people. Set in extensive grounds it is an ideal place to allow visitors to experience the countryside of Scotland whilst being situated only 30 minutes from the centre of Perth, One of Scotland’s cities. The accommodation is in shared rooms and the centre although described as “basic plus” has all the necessary resources for a successful exchange. Transport to the City is provided by the centre although there is irregular public transport.
