SYKLI Environmental School of Finland is a specialized vocational institute. SYKLI specializes in capacity building among professionals to promote sustainability. SYKLI offers in-service-training nationwide for adults representing a wide range of branches and professions. Furthermore, SYKLI is active in a number of domestic and international development projects. The organization’s mission is to reinforce environmental knowledge and improve their customers' operations in line with sustainable development objectives.SYKLI employs 35 full-time experts and trainers. Each year about 3 000 students participate in different types of trainings. SYKLI offers preparatory training for competence-based qualifications, staff training, teacher in-service-training, consulting and other expert services. Environmental education and communicating sustainability are an important focus.The project aims to develop the quality of SYKLI’s trainings by strengthening the trainers’ professional and pedagogical skills. Furthermore, the objective is to strengthen the staff’s capacities needed in international cooperation and to build a strong international network. During the project, SYKLI’s trainers familiarize themselves with organizations and professionals working in the field of environmental education and sustainability. The aim is to learn from and share good practices, learning environments and methods which enhance active learning and participation. Trainers take part in courses and accomplish job shadowing in European organizations. In addition, they provide workshops and other sorts of training during their visits, to share the best ideas for environmental education and sustainability communication from Finland. As a result of the project, new perspectives and methods are spread within SYKLI and through SYKLI’s nationwide networks in Finland. New ideas, learning environments and methods disseminated within the organization, e.g., by sharing learning diaries in the intranet and putting up pedagogical workshops. Learning environments and methods are introduced in SYKLI’s environmental educator training program, teaching trainings and other training programs. Environmental educators and teachers will be able to adapt these opportunities to their own work, and they are also encouraged to become active in European networks and forums. Furthermore, articles are written and published on the organization's website, and environmental and educational journals.
