The project aims to shape a new generation through non-formal educational and social activities and to promote an active European citizenship. Young people from several countries will be involved in various work fields and will develop various skills and working experience through their long term voluntary service. They will learn to be more independent and confident by living and working in a foreign country. The aim of this international mobility is to raise awareness of other countries, and to help understand and embrace other cultures. The volunteers taking part in the project will have an opportunity to experience the way of life in a different EU country, to be immersed in a multicultural society, to learn how to be tolerant of other attitudes and mindsets, and how to accept cultural diversity.All these objectives along with the learning and improving of foreign languages augment the general knowledge and increase the number of opportunities for the future. It is known that many volunteers can’t find jobs or are at the beginning of their careers. Thanks to their experience of participating in EVS and their activities in this non-formal learning process along with our assistance and guidance, they can be more successful in the labour market.It is envisaged that this project will involve 14 volunteers, young people who want to experience life and activities in Slovakia; and who will have a range of socio-economic backgrounds. Specifically, the Ecumenical council of churches in the Slovak Republic encourages participation from volunteers who may otherwise struggle to have access to higher education or work experience, whether this is due to geographical reasons, family problems, health problems or economic obstacles. It is hoped that the project will attract an equal number of male and female volunteers. We expect that 9 European countries will be represented: Germany, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Croatia, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The volunteers will be embedded in 9 different hosting organizations in three Slovak cities. The placements involve areas dealing with mentally challenged people, kids, youth, elderly people, etc. The activities are focused on individuals or a group, e.g. accompanying clients or the preparation and implementation of various activities with an added value that is different from the daily routine.The volunteers will be given lots of support by people in their local communities as well as the ECCSR and will be able to develop their skills and improve their knowledge as well as benefiting the local communities. The ECCSR will provide them with comprehensive training and ongoing support with supervision to help face the challenges of this type of work. The volunteers will be supported in their development and learning, especially during regular supervision meetings and additional seminars organized by the coordinating organization: one on arrival, one mid-term, and one final evaluation seminar.Many stakeholders are involved in this project. The volunteers, staff and clients in the hosting organisations, mentors, Slovak citizens, friends, sending coordinators, coordinating and host organizations, etc. The positive impact extends to all of them. In every local community, where a volunteer is based; the presence of an enthusiastic and capable volunteer adds value to the objectives of the project.For the participants, the project is expected to have a huge impact on their knowledge levels, particularly relating to Slovak culture, language and specific work skills relevant to each project.
