Sexual Education for Adults with Disabilties, their parents and staff
Date du début: 1 oct. 2012,

The project “Sexual Education for Adults with Disabilities, their parents and staff – SEAD” with partners from BE, DE, FI, HU, LT, NL, and UK focuses on the sexual education of adults with disabilities, their parents and staff. One the one hand in recent years, important and positive changes in attitudes have resulted in improved opportunities for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, societal attitudes have changed less in regard to sexuality and disability. Even today, many people refuse to acknowledge that all people have sexual feelings, needs, and desires, regardless of their physical and/or mental abilities. As a result, many people who live with disabilities do not receive sex education what often leads to many open questions for all stakeholders, confusions, unintended situations or even to sexual abuse of or by people with disabilities. On the other hand the multilateral Grundtvig project “FOCAL” showed that creativity and arts can be a good way to foster the integration of people with disabilities into society and to foster the personal development of disabled.Against the background that (improved) sexual education is needed for persons with disabilities, their parents and staff (PDPS) and creativity and arts (e.g. drama, painting) can be a way to work with the target group the partners propose the implementation of the project SEAD.During the SEAD project the partners will develop a tool kit for sexual education of PDPS consisting of Europe wide applicable, innovative and customised methods and tools using arts and creativity to foster the sexual education of PDPS. Furthermore the project partners lay a special focus on the awareness-raising of this topic. Through the project activities the SEAD partners want to develop an alternative learning approach and thus improve the access of people with disabilities to education and learning, to foster the responsible self-determination of people with disabilities and to promote their integration into society
