Following the reception of a young Polish girl in EVS in 2014, the Maison de l'Europe en Mayenne wished to renew its action of awareness of European citizenship and cultures led by a young European volunteer. This action had been very positive and beneficial as well as for the young volunteer and the Maison de l'Europe, but also for the citizens from Mayenne who had the opportunity to discover Europe, its cultures and European mobility in a new way. Moreover, the results of the European elections showed that youngsters are not interested, don't feel concerned or even reject Europe. In contrary, the unemployment of young people is increasing and more and more youngsters want to go abroad. As a relay of the European Union, it is important to make discover Europe in all of its aspects. Moreover, the testimony of a young European volunteer enables youngsters to be interested and encourage them to live an experience abroad as well, but also is a good way to make them aware of the volunteer's culture and language. Iuliana Sescu, A young Romanian girl aged of 24 years old, carried out an 8-month EVS within the Maison de l'Europe en Mayenne, in Laval, France, a non-lucrative organisation aiming at informing citizens of various ages about the European Union and its Member States. She participated in the informative actions on the European mobility programs targeting young people, educative workshops on the European Union and the Member States' cultures organized in schools and in youth organisations, the organisation of events, such as Europe Day or an event called Quinzaine culturelle, the development of information tools, the activities during intercultural exchanges, etc. She also contributed to the development of the youth commission of the organisation composed of young volunteers and young Europeans living in Mayenne. This commission aims at proposing, preparing and leading activities on Europe during events organised by the Maison de l'Europe. Iuliana also carried out, with our activity leader and/or the sociocultural activity leader of Habitat Jeunes Laval (the home for young workers where she also lived) activities on Europe, its cultures and its values.
