SENSES: the sensory theatre. New transnational strategies for theater audience building
Date du début: 4 juil. 2015, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The SENSES project goals are:1) To implement a new strategy of theater audience building by improving access to creative works and intensifying their live experience;2) To enhance the cultural and creative sector capacity to operate transnationally. The survey commissioned in 2013 to Eurobarometer on the behaviour concerning cultural participation and production has showed that access to theatre have suffered from 2007 to 2013 a 4% decline from 32% to 28%.Notwithstanding the economic crisis, the main causes of such low attendance have been identified not properly in the ‘expenses’, but in a ‘lack of interest’, particularly prevalent among young people (15-24 aged). Some exception (for inst. Romania) may be listed, where also the ‘lack of choice’ or the ‘low quality of the activities’ are particularly relevant. In order to activate interest in theatrical shows the project plans to adopt an innovative strategy of playwriting and staging based on the enhancing of the audience sensorial perception during the shows and on the critical awareness of the public on the same experience.Furthermore, SENSES aims at:a) enhancing youths’ involvement not only as potential consumers, but also as creators and critics of contemporary culture, promoting their own creative talent in co-writing the drama; b) creating new forms of collaboration between cultural and creative operators and the higher education system. The partners have been selected among Theatres, Associations and Universities, coming from three EU countries: Italy, Romania and France.Expected results are:1. Co-production of three new plays in which the meaning of the sensations for human living and thinking will be suitably emphasized;2. 24 innovative performances of them in three different countries;3. Implementation of a transnational Observation-centre for the impact measurement of theatre on young people;4. Guideline for the implementation of similar centres and other guided explotation strategies.
