Self-Organised Learning at the Workplace for SME Hotels

The aim of the project is to develop the skills of both managers and employees within small and medium sized hotels, in order to improve the quality of service delivery and consequently to enhance their competitiveness within the tourism industry. This aim will be achieved by offering a new training package to small and medium sized hotels across the partner countries. The project will initially establish a Technical Committee which will be responsible for the development of the technical content of the project, which will include specific training modules and a methodological guide. A further Consulting Committee will be established to be responsible for validation of the developed training and for the mainstreaming of the project results. Research will be conducted across the partner countries to gather information on the skills gaps of personnel working in small and medium sized hotels. The results of this research will be produced in the form of a report outline staff skills profiles in the industry. A methodological guide will be developed for training providers that will describe techniques for implementing a ‘self-learning’ training programme in the workplace. The training programme will be tested on end-users in 5 hotels in each participating partner country and trainers will be further trained in how to deliver the programme to employees. The eventual training modules will be output onto CD-Rom. Dissemination activities will include the development of a dedicated project website and the publication of printed publicity materials.
