TERMINÉ
SedAlp contributes to integrated management of sediment transport in Alpine basins directed to an effective reduction of sediment-related risk while promoting the enhancement of riverine ecosystems and reducing the impacts of hydropower plants (balancing the implementation of EU Directives e.g. RES, Floods and WFD). The project includes piloting actions in various representative Alpine river basins of all involved countries and contributes to monitor sediment and wood transfer in a large set of Alpine catchments to understand spatial and temporal variability of processes and to provide planning, warning and predictive tools but also sediment and wood management recommendations for protecting people. The project includes strategy policy development and implementation actions for the improvement of sediment continuity in Alpine river basins. SedAlp regards the geological and climatic variability across the Alps that generates complex patterns of sediment transfer, whereas management conflicts are similar. Achievements: Important progress must be underlined concerning the production of sediment sources inventories in several pilot basins. GIS tools have been substantially improved through the integration of novel statistical procedures and performance testing on new test beds. Sediment and wood monitoring activities in the pilot basins are still ongoing. A detailed analysis of the available monitoring data has been carried out, while preliminary results like transport rates and process related parameters, or suggestions to adapt existing transport formulas, have been accomplished. Field surveys of structures, torrents and basins were carried out. Influence of check dams has been studied through small scale models with different setups. Existing cadastres of water infrastructures were updated and the failure potential of selected check dams was evaluated. SedAlp is on Facebook to better promote its activites and outputs. A Groupware section has been implemented on the website.
