The Seaconomics projects aim is to make the 2 Seas coastal tourism offer more dynamic and to find innovative solutions to the common problem of a changing environment and a decline in the traditional touristic industry that no longer meets current visitor demand. The Seaconomics project will focus on 3 main activities:- Encouraging investment and progressive initiatives in the tourist industry by implementing new coastal improvement schemes that will create attractive waterfronts for visitors, local communities and businesses.- Improving business skills, by supporting local businesses and promoting entrepreneurship through advice and training for existing and start-up businesses.- Developing innovative marketing campaigns for SMEs and local communities to promote one anothers areas and to boost the image of the partner regions. Expected Results: What are the key results of the project?Activity 1:- Desk surveys to identify areas of improvement 1 per partner area.- 1 study conference per partner based on a specific theme- Leaflets/posters/media to advertise new designs and public consultations- Improvements to create up to 100 new jobs, safeguard 500 and 25 new businesses will be developed- Visitor numbers to increase by 100,000 measured by local business surveysActivity 2:Desk surveys 1 per partner area100 workshops, training eventsA minimum of 500 SMEs given 1 to 1 support5 large cross border events organisedTraining event for planners - 10 sessions30 best practice workshops to promote pride in the business communityActivity 3:- Evaluation audit on existing marketing activity- Dedicated coastal campaigns niche and contemporary - at least 50- 1 portal web site- Attendance at a series of specialist travel shows and Kustforum (5 collectively and 10 seperately)Are all partners and territories benefitting from the results?Target groups for the project will include:Existing and new tourism businesses, coastal communities, tourism bodies, local authorities and planning authorities. Also, entrepreneurs and businesses will benefit from the improved economic vitality of the sites and local communities in the towns and regions who will be home to the regenerated waterfront facilities.Project partners and business support agencies in the 2 Seas area will draw benefits from the project thanks to the innovative actions that SEAco will implement.Final beneficiaries will be:Public authorities, politicians and policymakers in the 2 Seas area; professionals in regeneration and transformation of waterfront areas; stakeholder organisations in coastal areas in transformation andthe local communities and general public in waterfront areas in the 2 Seas area. Businesses within the 2 Seas area will benefit from increased and focussed support, linked to cross-border input from other business support networks.The general population of the 2 Seas area will benefit from the project as increasing numbers of visitors come to the area and spend money, in turn leading to local job creation and the further development of the local economy.What are the effects / outcomes for the territories involved?The effects and outcomes of the project will be a higher profile for coastal communities that are generally seen as being in decline. An improved public realm and beach facilities for use by visitors and coastal communities. Thsi will be underpinned by a better quality of welcome and a trained workforce to complement the dynamic waterfront area able to compete in a global tourism market place. From these important stimulus interventions there will be more jobs created and more businesses investing in the area.
