Sea routes (Sjövägar)

For centuries the area which today covers the Interreg IIIA -cooperation represented thecore of the sea bound Swedish Baltic Sea empire. The archipelago region between thenational capitals Stockholm and Åbo was developed into an active and viable region, through which people, goods and information flowed. In the regional cross- bordercooperation, it is important to promote and emphasise what the contact across the sea hasmeant during various periods and to use this knowledge to profile the archipelago region. The comprehensive goal in the project Sjövägar (Sea routes) was to acquire newknowledge about the archipelago regions maritime history and to use this knowledge tostrengthen the regions profile locally and elsewhere. The project focused mainly ondevelopment of qualitative culture tourism.A contact network was established between the participating cultural organisations andmuseums thanks to this project. Special attention was paid to the manifestation of culturalactivities and events during off peak seasons Achievements: Please refer to the 'Description' field, which also includes the achievements of this project.
