Scouth on the Move
Date du début: 17 juin 2014, Date de fin: 16 déc. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Context The goal of the project is to address national conflicts in both participating countries by evaluating complex concepts as identity, interculturality, nation, peace and war. Hereby we chose to present these as accesible as possible . The goal here is to make the participants 'feel' wat these concepts mean to them and to others. This through different thematic games and related reflection moments. As a Belgian group we feel the cleavages in our own country (language, culture, reformation of the state stystem), that are in a way comparable to these of Bosnia. In this sense we can enter into dialogue and learn of each others problems. Participants We choose consciously to focus on an upcomming generation scout leaders. This because at least we have one thing in common, being that we are all scout wich equals: motivated young people. This connection makes an intensive dialogue a lot easier. Plus besides the things we can learn about identity, culture etc... we can exchange our view on scouting. Given the fact that these young people will contribute to the education of future generations of children makes that they can pass these new ideas to the next generation. The group will consist of twenty participants and three leaders from Bosnia and ten members and three leaders from Belgium. In this way we have a broad range of ideas in the group while not being to large to reflect on these. Activity and Methodology Every day will be in a different theme we want to question (identity, nation, culture and customs, view on scouting and youth engagement.). Because these are very complex issues we will address them in an accessible and playfull way by orchestrate the concepts through different games that are prepared by both partners. Objectives By setting up a dialogue in a multicultural context about what is specific about the conflicts in both countries we hope to create a different skoop on these situations. A better understanding of (cultural) identity, nationhood, habitus that often lay at the basis of conflict will lead to a positive relativism, cosmopolitanism and mutual respect. In that way our group of youngsters will not be fooled by a simple populistic discours that did a lot of damage the last centuries (WW I, WW II, Cold War, Ukrain) The specific goals are that participants: -Get in touch with the history and cultural situation in both countries -Get an insight in youth work in the other country -Understand that personal identity consists of a superposition of identities on different scales. We learn to identify and articulate the different group identities that shape our personal identity and we get an insight in the differences between groups and an individuals. -Discover that a state is something artificial that has to mobilize different tools to keep its citizens together. Examples are language, religion, history etc -See how easy differences between groups can escalate whereby the gap only enlarges through time. We negotiate how to get to a solution in this case. -Finally we bring all what we have learned together in order to apply them to the conflicts in our countries. How can we solve these problems with the acquired skills; wich lessons can we draw out of equal situations in the partner country? Long term results and objectives Altough we don't have a concrete project planned yet (except for the things formulated in in H.2.) we hope to set up a durable contact between our scouting groups. In this way we create a network spanning Europe that can serve as a springboard for future exchanges setting the stage for a peaceful a respectful European continent.
