School Staff in action for a school in progress

In recent years our school has developed both the international field and the technological equipment: it has joined school exchanges with European schools; it has introduced iPads and IWB in every class, optical fibre cables in the whole building, it has a movie hall with a control room and fully equipped science labs. However, teachers are still unable to use these tools and devices as they are still linked to traditional teaching methods. On the basis of this fact, taking into account the agreement to ET2020 programme and the National Project for a Technological School, our school has developed a three-year Improvement Plan concerning teaching methodology and organisational area in order to increase the quality of the service given to students, families and local territory. The aim of this project is to activate quality-improvement measures by an intercultural and European approach which allows to exchange both teaching and organisational good practices with different European situations.In particular the main goals in the project are: 1.increasing in the school staff their competences in the English language so that they can help students become aware of being European citizens and offer them better opportunities in a global world; 2.improving the competences of CLIL methodology among teachers to meet the needs of flexibility, creativity, communicative and argumentative skills required by the academic and the business world; 3.increasing in the teachers their skills in arranging learning environments where digital technologies may encourage teaching through practical activities and workshops and make students learn by doing and problem solving; 4.improving the quality of school management styles, thanks to the comparison with different European school management, to enhance human resources and to make a better use of economical and instrumental resources. The project, which has been strongly supported by the Principal and shared with the Teaching Staff and the School Board, has been developed and will be managed by a project team possessing outstanding competences in European projects and school organisation. Both teachers and members of the school staff have been involved in the mobility abroad so that the project can have a significant impact on the school life, in the firm belief that just the synergy between the different actors involved can produce real changes. The partecipants have been identified on the basis of their willingness and ability to make the project sustainable and transferable. The total number of staff on mobility a 24-month project is 32. The activities which are appropriate to the achievement of the objectives are the following: English language for teachers and school staff, CLIL methodology for teachers of the scientific and humanistic area, Drama Technique for English teachers, ICT used on teaching methods for the new position as digital tutor; Physical and Virtual learning environments for Special Projects teachers ; teaching through practical activities for Science and Physics teachers; physical and mental health at school for P.E. teachers; School Management for members of the school staff. The schools providing the courses have been chosen considering the high quality of the content of the courses, the decade-long experience and the supporting actions given to the attendees at all stages of the project. Moreover, every phase will be carried out together with the project team using eTwinning and School Education Gateway platforms and information technologies. After the mobility, the school staff is expected to have a leading role both in their own professional growth and in the significant change of the whole school community. This change must create: the expansion of the European dimension of the school with the consequent involvement in new European projects and strategic partnerships; the improvement of CLIL classes; the improvement of the education opportunities thanks to the innovation of the curricula and teaching methodologies and the constant use of the ICT; the redefinition of the school time and space by experiencing flexible forms of organisation such as same-level groups or the creation of challenging and dynamic learning environments; the understanding of the importance of the certification of competences and of the lifelong learning. The expected long-term benefits will concern both the improvement of the school and of the students' educational results, they will motivate students to learn and have an active participation in order to create informed, expert and employable citizens. The plan for the dissemination consists of communication and training activities, sharing materials and good practices through the web and the involvement of the local press and of the local University.
