School in progress for a life long learning environment
Date du début: 1 oct. 2014, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The context The Scientific – Linguistic “P. Metastasio” Lyceum is located in the municipality of Scalea, on the Tyrrhenian coast of Northern Calabria, an area that lives all the problems and hardships of Southern Italy. It provides three educational options: SCIENTIFIC, SCIENTIFIC- APPLIED SCIENCES and LINGUISTIC. It is the only Upper secondary education institution in the Town. Most students, characterized by a low and a middle educational family background, travels long distances every day, despite the logistic difficulties because it is the only scientific-linguistic school of the territory. In such a context it is necessary to overcome the idea of teaching as a simple transmission of knowledge: the school must open to the territory becoming the engine of growth and progress, a cultural hub for students and adults, a centre of social aggregation. Therefore, it’s really necessary to develop, in young people, the ability to create and use knowledge to solve problems in real-world contexts. Aims Teachers need to improve the students’ “learning to learn” competence if they want to let them become active, motivated and collaborative. It is necessary to reorganize the school system setting by transforming it into a non-limited space with flexible, high-tech areas used in a variety of teaching methods in order to train knowledge and to develop and form the student as an autonomous individual. Creativity, flexibility and innovation are essential skills for raising the required professional qualities; there is the need to encourage teachers and students to act and interact in innovative ways through the expansion and the strengthening of: 1. management skills 2. expertise in the area of new technologies 3. skills in community language learning, ICT and CLIL methodology The aim of these transformations is to equip every learner with the skills, expertise and knowledge to survive and thrive in the 21st century. Number and skills of the participants The headmistress and 20-25 teachers with significant didactic experiences Description of activities To modernize and internationalize our school system, to update its curricula and enhance its quality we choose to visit, the first year of our mobility, the Oerestad Gymnasium in Denmark, a modern system school who has already undertaken a new pedagogical vision. There will be three meetings, each of fifteen days (two weeks) job-shadowing activities, during which the headmistress and the teachers of the different departments will observe and analyze the school organization from the logistic and didactic point of view. There will also be sixteen training activities for teachers in qualified training centres to develop/improve foreign linguistic skills, the knowledge and the application of collaborative methodologies. Methodology The Establishment of a working group to monitor and evaluate the whole life-cycle project through questionnaires, project meetings and reports of the phases Results and impact 1.acquiring knowledge on the on-going educational systems 2.improving management, teaching and training competences 3.activating school modernization and internationalization Long- term potential benefits Students will become more aware of their responsibility in the training process as active individuals and European citizens. The Institute will implement the experienced vision of a modern and an effective school system going on WITH its new educational policies as a dynamo in the social and cultural life of the town.
