PROJET
TERMINÉ
Barrow Hall is a large three form entry Primary school in an urban area in Warrington, Cheshire. The learning of Spanish spreads throughout Lower and Upper key stage two whilst Key Stage one focuses on basic German and some French. As a whole staff we are determined to build on the current strengths of our school. We value the learning of MFL throughout the school as it allows children to be accustomed to other cultures and traditions. We are a forward thinking school and are keen to extend our global outlook by undertaking staff training abroad and engaging in international projects and partnerships.
The majority of teachers in our school have had no language training aboard and we wish to upskill our teachers in this area. Our aim is to increase teachers' confidence and self esteem in integrating languages into their practice (Spanish and French) as well as improving their language skills. We wish for staff to attend language training courses abroad over the next two years. These staff will attend CPD provision whether experienced, recently or newly qualified. This will result in the quality of teaching and learning across the school.
Our management team are keen to acquire knowledge and skills on how other countries in the EU ensure the professional development of all their teachers and how this impacts on their pedagogies and learning of all children. We wish to increase awareness of leadership around Europe by sharing new initiatives and ideas about best practice. We aim to promote internationalism throughout our school by staff visiting European countries for cultural exchange.
Teachers attending training courses in Spain and France will receive upskilling in language competencies through immersion of international training courses. We aim to send 2 groups of 3 teachers twice a year to Spain and 1 group of 3 teachers once a year to France (over a two year period). Training courses will take place during half term in either October 2015/2016, February 2016/2017 or May 2016/2017. Participants will be selected by their current development needs and the needs to the school. We expect teachers to undergo initial French and Spanish language lessons in the UK and they will then experience language courses by reputable training providers in French and Spanish speaking countries.
A whole school priority for the leadership team, including the Head teacher, is to focus on the professional development of all teachers within our school; from experienced to newly qualified. Having the opportunity to observe best practice of professional development in other EU countries , will allow our team to gain invaluable experiences, knowledge and understanding of other countries professional development methodologies. We aim to send to 8 members of the Senior leadership and Middle management team to Sweden over two years (one course per year).
All staff attending European courses will receive a certificate of training from the course providers.
The expected impact will see an increased confidence from our staff in the teaching of languages as an individual lesson and cross curricular. Through immersion of other cultures and the methodologies that underpin their teaching pedagogy, teachers will take away new initiatives and ideas that will inspire their teaching approach of the languages. We want to see children being introduced to two languages by 2017- Spanish and French. As well as this, the school will benefit from promoting and making children aware of the European dimension and how the children are connected to global community. Over time, teachers implementation of these new ideas will develop the quality of their teaching as a whole as well as the impact on childrens' learning. We aim to see the majority of our staff skilled in cross cultural teaching.
By observing how other EU countries provide professional development for their staff, we hope to incorporate their findings into our school in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning. By providing teachers with other means of professional development and best practice, we endeavour to see the confidence of teachers develop in order to promote language and cultural learning.
Our Head teacher is a part of an alliance with other schools in the Warrington area. By being involved in this alliance, we will share our outcomes with this alliance which will then be incorporated into other schools in the area. The alliance also runs programmes for newly and recently qualified teachers that will enable our outcomes to be implemented into these programmes of study. In order to ensure community awareness, publication of our schools mobilities will be issued on the school website and in the local newspaper.
