Scheldt'Outing 2014 @ Slovakia
Date du début: 17 juin 2014, Date de fin: 24 déc. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

?Scheldt?Outing 2014@Slovakia? aims to spread the idea of youth participation in decision making and to give the participating youngsters the opportunity to discover a different (water) culture and to inspire them to take action. A delegation of the Scheldt Youth Parliament consisting of 16 members traveled to Slovakia, where they met with 17 Slovakian and 7 Ukrainian youngsters on the borders of the Ondava river, in the Danube river basin. The aim of the exchange was to learn and discuss about and see different solutions for reinforcing the landscape through recovery projects in view of climate change mitigation. During the year, the members of the SYP have been working in their local environment on water governance, with focus on this year?s thematic ?Blue Green Networks? under the supervision of GoodPlanet Belgium. They identify opportunities to reinforce the Blue Green Network in the Scheldt River Basin and take their conclusions to decision makers and water experts to discuss about them. Our Slovakian partner organization Ludia a Voda is working in countryside communities to empower the people, including youngsters, in implementing solutions for landscape recovery. Bringing youth in contact with these solutions, they can experience in real life their impact, that will help adapt to flooding and droughts and mitigate climate change, a problem were young people are confronted with and aware of more and more. The implemented measures directly benefit the local residents through positive impacts on the hydrological cycle (anti-flood protection, water retention and increased water availability). Education of the involved communities is an important part in their projects. Ukrainian youth is involved to learn about youth work and participation and to learn about the recovery measures taken in Slovakia. Aside from direct impacts on the participants like improved (foreign language) communication skills, nature and climate change education and international friendship, we aim to improve the general environment of the participants in the social, ecological and economic context, by activating and stimulating the participants to participate in society on all levels by making conscious choices both good for people and the planet. In this way they secure a good society for themselves to live in as well as for future generations. A very important goal in this stadium of human development, as young people are continuously confronted by one crisis after the other. In this context it is very important to give youth the chance to voice their concerns, and to stimulate and support positive actions towards a more secure and sustainable future.
