Distance learning without tears : The technical difficulties associated with video-conferencing deter many potential users, with the result that it is not as widely used in distance education as it could be. SMART_EDU solves the problem of the speech lagging behind the image, thus making interactive video much more attractive as a means of delivering online seminars. The project partners are convinced that this is a cost-effective means of delivering distance education and so making a real contribution to the achievement of lifelong learning goals. This project started in 2000 and lasted 36 months.
