‘Neighbours yesterday, today and tomorrow’ project is based on sharing knowledge and searching for values common for Polish and German students.The main goal of the project is creating opportunities to acquire knowledge and improving the skills of students and teachers through development of basic and specific skills using innovative methods.Students and teachers will be able to acquire new skills and knowledge, develop professionally, and introduce changes that stimulate development of schools themselves.International connections will enhance multiculturalism in terms of sharing everyday problems and inspiring to explore traditions of the project partners.The project meets the needs of the teachers and students of Gimnazjum no. 2 in Krotoszyn and Sophie-Hedwig-Gymnasium in Diez. The primary aim of the project is creating a program that would enhance intercultural competences of the students that are the foundation of coexistence in culturally diverse Europe.Moreover, the project provides a possibility of establishing an active cooperation and trade of experiences between our institutions as well as incorporation of good practices and new methods to everyday actions in the partner schools in the field of multiculturalism understood as searching of common cultural values, combating the influence of stereotypes that make international cooperation difficult, development of tolerance and openness for cultural differences, traditions and readiness to cooperate despite divergence, and historical and mental divisions. The team mates in multicultural units will share experiences and knowledge through common classes such as cooking, dancing, photography, history with elements of drama, exploring German language and Greater Poland dialect, and sport classes. Except from that partners have defined further goals: -consciousness of the importance of cultural heritage of communities and cultural heritage of Europe in contrast with other continents -increasing competences of teachers through sharing experiences and skills with other school staff -more active participation in social life The project will be a great opportunity to promote formal and informal education among students and teachers. It also concerns development of IT skills and open educational resources. It was agreed that 19 Polish and German students will participate in the project each year. The criteria for choosing the participants include: activeness and engagement with school activities, openness for international cooperation and communication, and at least mediocre grades. Moreover, 6 teachers from each school will attend short-distance mobilities which will aim sharing good practices, experiences, observation of classes in a partner school and participation in workshops and training courses. Cooperation between partners has begun before placing the proposal and it lead to creation of the project that include: -8 international project meetings, 4 short-term mobilities of the staff and 4 short-term mobilities of students (joined projects) -the ways of introducing and managing the project, control of time and budget, monitoring and evaluation of the quality of actions, sharing every-month reports, anti-risk measures -ways of assuring of availability of project results, their use and publishing -methods and forms of work that will be used during the project -possibilities of continuation of the actions after the end of financing the project The partners anticipated various results that will be brought about thanks to the project, among others: -tolerance and openness for cultural differences and traditions and breaking cultural, national and communication barriers -improvement of language skills -creation of an innovative teaching program regarding shaping multicultural awareness -improvement of teachers’ qualifications through trading of experiences and sharing skills with partner school Staff -development of the IT skills and open educational resources -acquiring knowledge, experiences, and skills in the field of shaping multiculturalism in order to fulfil project tasks on similarities and differences regarding history, culture and sport of both schools and other nations -promotion of formal and informal education among pupils and teachers -sharing the program with the public, for instance through the Internet Long run benefits will be visible in attitudes and actions of people who are students today and who will utilize acquired competences in future having a real impact on European co-operation, integration above differences and partnership in actions.
