Growing.Learning.Together – International
As a secondary school, the Minor Seminary (Klein Seminarie Roeselare) guarantees quality education. We provide our pupils with a broad education, with an open eye to the world and the ideas of global citizenship. Together with an experienced team of teachers pupils take a step into the world and grow in knowledge and skills. Thanks to all kinds of international exchanges our pupils practise their skills, increase their social network, understand what own global citizenship is and increase their understanding of the European initiative. At the same time the school is motivating its teachers to be examples for these causes. As a school we believe it is important for our teachers to get in touch with their colleagues in other countries and to get to know various educational systems and norms around the world, and that, on the one hand in national in-service trainings, but also in international courses, teachers let themselves be inspired and guided by experts in general and specific course methodology. Erasmus+ is a most valuable stimulance this.
During this next year we opt to invest in these three themes:
1. Information and communication technology as a means for school innovation
2. New insights in methodology and pedagogy
3. Linguistic and cultural in-service training for our language teachers
Within this framework we would like to send one teacher on an in-service training course. Filip Vandevelde, teacher of English and Dutch, is a motivated professional who wants to set an example for his pupils in respect of world citizenship. At the same, throughout his career as a teacher of our school, he has tried to keep his competences up to scratch and improve them over time. Together with the team colleagues of the language department he is trying to improve the growth and the development of the language talents of his pupils. That’s why he thinks it is essential to keep up to date with the newest language methodologies, in casu the teaching and assessing of the spoken language skill.
The expected results of this course will closely connect to the needs of the department of languages:
1. to increase the teachers’ competences in teaching and assessing speaking skills.
2. to stay up to date with the changing methodology
3. to keep an open eye on the digitalisation of the language education
4. to address co-teaching and its uses
5. as an example teacher, motivate European mobility of other teachers and pupils and point them to the correct EU-tools
6. to increase the teacher’s own language skills in an international setting.
In the long run and after implementation of the new ideas in the school curriculum, we expect that the language education in general and the speaking skills education in particular will have been set new targets for the future.
In the end, valuable education and learning is a combination of growing talents and inspiring each other every new day, pupils and teachers alike.
