The cooperative Agape operates mainly in Sardinia in the Mental Health; intends to pursue the general interest of the community for human advancement and the social integration of citizens where emerges a situation of social unrest. People with mental illnesses arouse fear and prejudice in others, often based on stereotypes about mental ill health, increases so personal suffering, social exclusion and can impede access to a dignified life and to the labor market. Mental ill health are a growing problem worldwide. For these reasons, the Cooperative realized the project "Salute mentale per Tutti", aiming at the pursuit of common goals such as the development of solidarity, promotion of mental health and social inclusion. Young people faced the experience of voluntary service, assisting operators, educators and assistants in the social-care structures, managed by the Cooperative for the local healt system, located a few km from the city of Cagliari. Every structures, hosted 6 psychiatric patients with rehabilitation and recreational projects. The main aims were to promote and support initiatives for the affirmation of a culture of inclusive community, hospitable and generous, by listening to and relationship with others; promote active participation in society; promote social inclusion and raise awareness of mental disability; increase intercultural awareness; promoting active citizenship. The inclusion of young people in training courses structured and unstructured, allowing them to achieve the following objectives: to improve the skills and language skills; acquire new technical skills, social and relational; learn through '"learning by doing"; develop and improve skills such as initiative and problem solving skills, improve its ability of teamwork and acquiring an expertise helpful at a professional level, as well as ethical. The project had a duration of 8 months and involved of 2 (and 1 substitute) volunteers aged between 18 and 30 years from two partner countries, Spain and Croatia. The activities consisted in the organization of an Italian language course for foreigners, for 7,5 hours a week; initial training activities for volunteers (work safety for 4 hours in total, active citizenship about for a week); daily assistential activities (mentoring experienced operators in the various daily activities in residential facilities for the mentally disabled: 15 hours for a week and 4,5 hours of “Shared lunch” ); recreational p.m. activities that included photo, painting and creative recycling workshops (15 hours for a week); free-extra activities such as excursions and events organized by the Cooperative on weekends; monitoring activities, through the administration of questionnaires and the preparation of a final report; promotion activities of the project; mentoring for 1 hour a week. The working methods used were based on active observation, on '"learning by doing", learning by active participation in the activities and by the transfer of know-how arising from the fieldwork; in this way the volunteers have accrued skills and abilities useful to a future work and strengthen the sense of European citizenship. Through non-formal learning volunteers have increased their awareness of illness – as different from the healt - and developed practices based on the notion of positive health.
