In Slovenia the situation in the field of LGBTIQ (lesbian, gey, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer) rights is slowly improving, but is far from desired. The work of NGOs and individual projects importantly contributes to the improvement of the situation. Programs that actively involve youth (planning, implementation and reaching the target population) have proven to be especially efficient. The Safe MSM project will have an importnat focus on HIV prevention and raising awareness among MSM (men who have sex with men) population. MSM are the target group that are most at risk for contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases in Slovenia. Up to 80 % of the infections with HIV are infections among MSM. The main goal of the project is to contribute to reducing the spread of the diseases, related to the lifestyle of MSM (HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases), through various preventive activities (raising awareness, field work etc.), empowerment of the MSM population and raising awareness among the general population with the aim of reducing stigma and prejudice. The project is part of other general activities of the Association DIH. Through the project we wish to contribute to other activities of the assosiation besides HIV/aids prevention among MSM, including: learning human rights, different forms of socialization and sport for LGBTIQ, their friends and family, internal newsletter DIHki and LGBTIQ camps, besides the realization of the goals of the project Pride Parade. We strive for the participation of youth (either in the context of the activities or the context of political participation and active citizenship), the promotion of cultural diversity, solidarity, promotion of tolerance and promotion of active involvement of youth with fewer opportunities (which LGBTIQ individuals are because of social exclusion). The participation of na EVS volunteer will enrich our work and emphasize the elements of European citizenship. With the project Safe MSM we aim towards more conscoius and informed individuals from the MSM group on the field of sexual health, especially sexually transmitted diseases and HIV, towards the development of quality support systems for youth (training for volunteers, LGBTIQ activites, human rights, FARE games - with football againts discrimination), the development of the capacity of civil society in the field of youth (various new and better projects), participation of youth (activities for socialization of LGBTIQ individuals, Pride Parade, activism), cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue (human rights, activities for socialization of LGBTIQ individuals), inclusion of disadvantaged youth (LGBTIQ individuals, individuals with different etnical origins etc.), promotion of a healthy lifestyle including sport (sports activities for LGBTIQ as a tool for active citizenship promotion and promotion of social inclusion), special emphasis on European citizenship, mutual understanding among youth form different countries, cultural and social diversity, promotion of foreign language learning, strengthening of competences, promotion of a more active participation in society and on the european level through Erasmus+ and EVS projects.
