S1-L14-SAPIENT-South Africa Partnership with International research universities network: thE Next sTep
Date du début: 15 juil. 2010,

Combining existing qualitative partnerships between IRUN and their South African partners strengthens the ties, gives an extra impulse and gives participating partners the possibility to widen their network in Europe and South Africa. The consortium has a strong belief in spreading and sharing knowledge in a people-to people way, not only for the individuals involved but also for the whole institution and even the whole society. The proposed project is to further develop and professionalize a mobility scheme for South African students and academic staff. At the moment, mobility between IRUN and the South African partners is mainly from Europe to South Africa, due to financial matters. As a result, the South African partners cannot fully benefit from the great international education and research infrastructure, the outstanding academic climate and the international cooperation within IRUN. The possibility for South African students and staff to work with the IRUN partners will improve the existing cooperations and will accelerate the development of these cooperations. The proposal will give the South African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the consortium the possibility to gain knowledge from IRUN's proven quality in regard to higher education teaching, learning capacity, research programmes and management skills. The regional, thematic and organisational diversity of the consortium, including the associate partner, gives the South African HEIs a wide range of possibilities to search for best practices among the IRUN partners in order to increase the research capacity and effectiveness of university governance in their home institutions. The European HEIs will benefit by welcoming outstanding South African students and staff and by further developing and strengthening their network in Europe and South Africa. In addition, the mutual intercultural understanding will enhance the quality of the target groups as well as the quality of the European and the South African HEI's that are part of the consortium.
