S1-L13 One More Step

The project ONE MORE STEP aims at promoting sustainable development actions and policies in L13 Countries through academic mobility and enhanced networking. It will try to contribute to the achievement of MDGs by focusing on the valorisation of human resources and skills to foster local development with reduced footprint, competitiveness and sustainable research, innovation and technology transfer, moving forward the actions started during the Bridging the Gap, EML12 project. HEI have a special position in providing scientific knowledge and expertise but primarily in promoting social responsibility and the awareness that common problems may find different and effective solutions if driven by shared consultation and decisions, understanding of local realities, joint actions to capitalize good practices and lessons learnt from emerging difficulties and needs and to promote comprehensive, deeper relationships and cooperation with the scientific, economic and industrial components and the social foundations of the countries involved. Brief description: ONE MORE STEP project ( www.one-more-step.eu) will provide 138 mobility grants at different levels, to improve academic exchanges and knowledge, mainly at PhD, post doc and staff levels, as well as Ba and master and to promote enhanced partnership capacity contributing to MDGs achievement and to the development of human resources and academic institutions. OMS will involve 20 partners and 9 associates in 15 countries on enhanced research and professional related actions, aimed at contributing to build deeper viable relationships with the social, scientific, economic and industrial components in L 13 OMS partners and associates will foster local development, competitiveness and sustainable research, innovation and technology transfer, advancing the initiatives undertaken by the EMECW L12 Bridging the Gap project, L12. This will imply the valorization of long lasting links between the project participants, through the definition and dissemination of guidelines and policies with a view of promoting know-how dissemination and technology transfer, valorising human resources and skills to foster local development with reduced environmental footprint, merging science based actions and traditional knowledge. The establishment of the OMS Alumni association and the launch with the partners’ organizations and local industrial partners of a web based virtual technological incubator (VTI) will represent the true “One More Step” of the project. Thematic conferences on prioritary issues will contribute at raising international awareness and networking, knowledge transfer and circulation, providing comparison platforms on the state of art and, possibly , improving career opportunities for specialised profiles. The envisaged advanced education and training by promoting sustainable technological development and transfer, will also provide expertise, scientific outcomes and tools to stakeholders and policy makers to respond to social needs, contributing to close gender and social differences, and cope with brain-drain issues and encouraging a less fragmented approach to global and local development. As medium term target OMS will consolidate partners business and industry related actions, presence and goals, common practices and sustainable procedures and standards for mobility and recognition with slots for internships and lifelong learning schemes.
