Date du début: 7 juil. 2014, Date de fin: 6 juil. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project "Development of key competencies of teachers from Junior High School No. 12 in order to increase the variety of students’ skills" continued the tradition of our school's use of EU programmes, in which the emphasis was put not only on intellectual and social development of our students and helping them to acquire new skills, but also on enrichment of our teachers’ experience and workshop. Junior High School No. 12 has faced two major challenges in recent years. These are: the massive increase in the number of students with special educational needs and the continuing poor performance of the exam. According to Polish Ministry of Education Exam Assessment Scale we were the school that needs support. Therefore, our teaching staff were looking for new methods, tools and opportunities that could give students the chance to gain knowledge more efficiently as well as to improve their motivation and learning outcomes. The aim of the project was to increase the skills of the teachers and to enrich educational possibilities of the school, which was associated with the implementation of three main tasks: improvement of students’ results from a nationwide secondary school exam, preparation of educational offer for the coming years, corresponding to the needs of the environment in which the school is located, and improvement of learning results in therapeutic classes (for students with special educational needs). The project brought together a group of 7 teachers. They were teachers of different seniority, different degrees of occupational advancement and also with different needs, however, focused on improving learning outcomes and developing their own skills, which gave the school a real chance to modernize its work and to apply changes to all areas of teaching - from humanities and science education to sport. The actions taken in the implementation of the project included not only travelling abroad in order to attend courses, but also exchanging thoughts, ideas and knowledge with other participants of the project as well as with the teaching staff after the completion of the mobility. Teachers who were involved in the project practised their language skills (English language courses at level A2, B1 and B2 - 5 people; French language course at B1 level - 1 person; the course for teachers of English: ‘Foreign language teaching methodologies in the XXI century’ - 1 person). Carefully selected language schools in the UK , Paris and Prague allowed us to get what we expected : knowledge and competence. The methods we used with our students in order to implement the effects of our work were: teaching by the project method, peer learning, workshops for students such as activity classes (history, French) and English language conversations. We were working not only with our gifted students but also with the poor ones. Within two years of the project implementation process, the school introduced CLIL elements into curriculum. The effects of these activities were submitted to the school community. The project is to bring three main outcomes: improvement rates of our students in a nationwide secondary school exam; preparation of such educational offer which will suit the needs of students and parents who expect school’s participation in EU projects and giving a chance to the participation of young people in European education and enjoying a high level of English proficiency. This project had an impact not only on the school community: it also had an impact on better perception of our school by the local community and the city government, it also strengthened the position of junior high school in the school environment of Zabrze. What’s more, this project benefited and satisfied the teachers participating in the project. These elements are also long-term benefits for the school: qualified staff, new/ refreshed teaching methods in the classroom, motivating students to learn the language, self-development and use of the opportunities provided by school, school co-operation with international partners during the development of the EU projects, enrichment of workshops for teachers and our school, promotion of the Erasmus+ programme in an educational environment of Zabrze and integration of the school community around common goals.
