The European Roma Communities have special situation compared to other minorities. They do not belong to any country what could support or protect them; do not have strong economic and social positions, and Roma have to face the same problems in every European state as poverty, low education, high unemployment-rate, bad accommodations and health situations, and furthermore deep prejudices and discrimination in every sphere of life. The Roma organizations have lower capacities than other non-Roma organizations, although their willingness of self-organization and preparedness is very important from the view of the development of the Roma communities. The deficiencies, competences of Roma organizations need to be further developed by different kind of trainings, seminars, joint actions and by best practice sharing. Our project is focusing on the empowerment of staff of Roma NGOs by establishing and developing a strong, professional network among them for cross-border cooperation. Achievements: Within the project 30 participants from 10 different Slovak and Hungarian Roma civil organizations were trained in the field of legal protection, participation in public affairs, equal opportunities, effective communication, negotiating techniques, generating project ideas, writing and completion of projects, finding financial resources and others. The aim of the project was to increase the knowledge, skills and readiness of Roma civil organizations in less developed regions, to create and maintain a strong expert network in order to increase the living standard in border regions and thus decrease the level of poverty, segregation and discrimination.
