ROLLING FORWARD
Date du début: 25 juin 2014,
Date de fin: 10 oct. 2014
PROJET
TERMINÉ
Brief Summary of Project:
"Rolling Forward" is a 6 day youth exchange between a group of 6 young people from the Netherlands and 12 young people from Ireland. The activity involves young people discovering how cycling can be fun, the option for a healthier lifestyle and experience the ease of mobility from getting from A to B. The group will interview young people in the city about their experiences of sport and in particular cycling. They will then do up a toolkit to show routes in Galway to cycle, tips for safety, quotes that show the positive impact of sports, maps, contact information. This will be shared on-line and also printed to share with young people and organisations, particularly the newly launched Bike Shared Scheme in Galway this summer.
Context/background of project:
- Need to promote exercise with young people. Because of safety, many young people (and their parents) are fearful of them using bikes in the city. We would like with this project to encourage YP to cycle.
- Contact with Netherlands who have experience of cycling as a natural mode of transport for all age groups.
Objectives of your project;
- Promote healthy lifestyle through cycling.
- Promote social inclusion among the group by doing sports together and learning from completing a project that will help other YP to access sports (particularly cycling) with greater confidence.
Number and profile of participants:
12 Irish people (and 3 youth workers)
6 Young people from the Netherlands (and 2 youth workers)
13-16 years old.
Among them 10 YP with challeenges (socially, economically, etc.)
Description of activities:
- Multicultural activities that will help each country mingle together.
- Learning to cycling safely around a city and also to fix a bike.
- Deal with stakeholders interested in the project of creating a platform for YP to cycle around a city (tips for safety, routes, questions and answers etc.)
- Do up a video (record and edit), a brief toolkit (using graphic design), interview YP on the street, compile all this information to share it with others.
Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:
Non-formal learning - teamwork, leadership skills, YouthPass aims and personal development goals.
Intercultrual activities (share their culture through cooking, song, dance, etc.
Interview skills.
Cycling to discover safe ways to get around the city and enjoy.
Hands-on design of toolkit.
A short description of the results and impact envisaged
After this project we hope that more YP will begin cycling and using the Bike Share Scheme in the cities to get from A to B. The results - interview, routes, testimonies of the positive value of cycling will be shared with everyone through a toolkit and a short video that will be shared with organisations and associations that will share the results to others.
Potential longer term benefits: greater confidence of YP to use the Bike Share Scheme or use a Bike to get from A to B instead of using a bus or other modes of transport.
