"roBOT (bilingual, open&tablet)classes : for an inclusive and compensatory education based on bilingualism and the use of the tablet" is our biennial (start: September 2016) teaching project based on BILINGUALISM and use of THE tablets.
It consists of 3 key actions and 18 mobilities.
1. KEY ACTION "TABLET CLASSES": its aim is to update the teaching and enhance the basic mathematical and scientific skills through new methodologies which would make the learning process easier and more stimulating for the students thanks to the use of THE tablets. The main target of such activities is to learn how to use THE App and all those programs that enable a STEM education, also based on the blended learning and flipped classroom. The final aim of the mobility is to create experimental tablet classes within the school.
There will be three courses for three teachers of maths and sciences who take part in LUGManzoni project within the school (a project to promote free software and open source):
-Introduction to iPads in Maths Teaching at High Schools
-Promoting active learning in numeracy
-Tablets for sciences and math
During this initial part of the project there will also be one week of job shadowing at the Steinhoefelschule of Meinz in Germany, where two maths teachers will observe the lessons in the Laptopklassen.
2. KEY ACTION "BILINGUAL CLASSES": its aim is to strengthen the quality of both teaching and learning processes through the perfection of teaching strategies based on the bilingual approach. There will be two activities of job shadowing, each one involving two CLIL teachers over a period of two weeks. The first one will be at the Jacob van Liesveldt High School of Hellevoetsluis in Holland (the main school of the CLIL Machinima project). The second one will be at the Europa schule Hermann-Böse Gymnasium of Bremen (bilingual IB High school). Both these activities will enable the international partnership between our school and Cambridge Assessment (a department of the prestigious English University), which will promote the Manzoni School as an International Cambridge High School.
In order to reach this target, each CLIL teacher will take part in the following technological and methodological courses:
-"Video production to support language learning" , which is essential for the job shadowing activity at the Jacob van Liesveldt school (such techniques are fundamental for the Machinima project);
- "eLearning: Creating Multimedia Content for Moodle using Windows & freeware programs"
- "Building research-based MOODLE materials in Maths, Science & CLIL".
3. KEY ACTION "OPEN CLASSES": its aim is to acquire new teaching strategies in order to help students with learning difficulties.
Each selected teacher will take part in one of the following training courses:
- "Inclusive Teaching and Special Educational Needs" based on SEN, the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice which has been issued by the British Government to support students with learning difficulties.
- "Count Me In - Using arts and culture for special needs groups".
Within this area there will be another job shadowing activity: three teachers of our school will observe the lessons at the Forssan High School in Finland for two weeks (this school is leader in teaching strategies for special needs students).
The Manzoni High School, which is a supporting Institution for students with earning difficulties, will organize some workshops for teachers, parents and students in order to devise strategies helping those students.
The job shadowing in Bremen and Forssa schools will be mutual.
One mobility will be for a member of the administrative staff ("Management of Erasmus Course + Mobility Projects Objectives" ) for the best financial and logistic management of the project.
The experiences of job shadowing in all the partner schools will provide a) valuable suggestions to be included in your school’s curriculum, for targeted interventions in favour of disadvantaged pupils; b) CLIL projects based on innovative bilingual teaching methodologies (i. e. Machinima method) for the development of cross competencies.
Students will benefit from the introduction in our classes of original cultural products collected or created during job shadowing and/or course participation. These products should strengthen their motivation as they might achieve inquiry based cultural projects in order to help them to develop their eight European key competences for citizenship.
Our school will benefit from the rich training programme in terms of development of teacher's personal and professional competences by implementing in their classes the practical ideas learned from the training team and the colleagues of the partner schools.
