The project BIWATERM represents a research concept and work plan for the exploration of the hydro ecological conditions of the cross-border thermal water bodies in the Euro region Hajdú-Bihar – Bihor. The general objective of the project is the exploration of the status and conditions of the cross-border thermal water bodies towards the long-term preservation of the operating thermal water system. Specific objectives: (1) Survey and evaluation of the hydrochemistry and well hydraulics parameters (2) detailed research of the geologic and hydrogeological character of the joint thermal water bodies. (3) Survey of the environmental problems caused by thermal water discharge. Target groups of the project are water, energy and environmental management organizations and authorities; county and local municipalities operating or planning to operate thermal spas or geothermic district-heating; private of public thermal spas and hotels; industrial, agricultural or institutional users of thermal water; research centers and universities, as well as the population of the affected area (approx. 1 million people in two countries);
