Research of Latvia Lithuania cross border regions’ attractiveness for franchise systems development (F.A.R. RESEARCH)

The project aims to solve the problem with lack of information available on the regions’ economic attractiveness to foreign companies planning to bring a franchise to the area, as well as the low level of knowledge locally on purchasing a franchise. During the project the methodology for the research of Latvia-Lithuania cross border regions' attractiveness for franchising was prepared. Methodology was designed to reveal the potential of Latvia-Lithuania cross border regions for exploiting international franchising opportunities. Evaluation models were developed in the methodology to quantify the attractiveness of each target region for franchising in particular business sectors. After the elaboration of the methodology, the research on mentioned topic was conducted. The main conclusion of the research is that apart from the capital regions, which are the by far the most developed and attractive for prospective franchises, peripheral and cross-border regions show significant strengths and opportunities for developing various business models. WEB portal www.brand4baltic.eu presenting project results and possibilities for the potential franchisers to get useful information was launched. During the spring of 2011 training course “FRANCHISE: How to Own a Successful Business” were held in seven cities of the project target regions.
