Regulation of Candida Albicans Virulence Factors and Infection

Hospital acquired infections caused by opportunitic yeasts of the genus Candida pose considerable medical and economic problems on both sides of the Channel. Disease caused by Candida depends on the deregulation of complex molecular recognition mechanisms by both the infecting yeast and the infected host. This Interreg project aims to combine the research expertises of the two specialist teams to elucidate the adaptive phenomena of Candida involved in two key steps of infection : adherence of the yeast to cells of the host and its fate in sentinel cells of the human immune system.
