Regional Development and Transport Logistics - European best practice in the development of logistics parks in Objective 1 and 2 regions (REDETRAL)
Date du début: 31 janv. 2005, Date de fin: 29 juin 2007 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The European common market as well as continued growth of the European economy is closely tied to the transportation of goods across the Union. Although the volume of movement within countries is still far greater than between countries, the share of international transport is growing more rapidly. For this reason, logistics and intermodality are major European transport policy issues. At the same time unrestricted growth of roads traffic faces increasing resistance and calls for more environmentally-friendly, multimodal strategies. The operation REDETRAL " Regional Development and Transport Logistics - European Best Practice in the Development of Logistics Parks in Objective 1 and 2 Regions" connects regions that share an interest in elaborating common strategies multimodal transport systems and logistics centres. Overall objective / Objectif général The overall objective of REDETRAL is to elaborate a European best practice approach to the development of logistics centres, which will inform several pilot projects aimed at developing concepts for new logistics centres (in Bøeclav and Žilina) and redesign existing ones. A particular objective of REDETRAL is to transfer know-how to the new Member States to help inform policy decisions and programme documents in Objective 1 and 2 regions with regard to the conversion of old industrial sites and their reuse as logistics parks. Expected results / Résultats attendus The operation improves the capacities of the participating authorities to design and implement logistics parks and - for the new Member State regions - utilize EU Structural Funds to that purpose. It elaborates a standardized approach to infrastructure logistics projects for any region with similar transport problems and thus creates results that are transferable also to other regions. Improved transport logistics also contributes to the social and economic development of the regions. Activities include the development of a handbook for the set-up of logistics parks projects under special consideration of Structural or other European funding. Specific issues addressed include the organizational structures for logistics parks and a strategy for implementation and marketing. Based on two pilot projects focusing on logistics park development or redesign, the partnership further elaborates and tests jointly developed concepts.
