Regarder l'Autre Autrement Dans l'Aude
Date du début: 1 mai 2016, Date de fin: 31 oct. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Professionals in youth and social work are currently facing a lot of questioning coming from youngsters regarding the last months’ violent events. Young people are often shocked by what they see and ear but mostly they do not understand what it is been said in the media. Their family sphere is not always the most suitable place for questions and explanations, therefore they often stay bewildered and keep preconceived ideas. If we consider the migrants question (for example youngsters were very shocked after seeing the picture of a dead Syrian child lying on a beach) which is a sensitive question since it is linked to different political opinions at a national level, it is difficult for young people to understand its metes and bounds. That is the why the French organization Roudel decided with its partners to organize a youth exchange from 21st to 27th August 2016 in Lézignan (France). It will gather 31 youngsters aged from 15 to 20 years old from France, Malta, Spain and Italy, all Mediterranean see-lined countries, the Mediterranean See which is in the middle of the current troubles and historically in the center of many migratory movements. The project aims at facilitating the understanding of the migration problematic by working on the youngsters’ territories and realities and their families’ identity as well as meeting people in their neighborhoods to see if they also migrated or experimented exodus or war. All this work will be presented with a small film made by the youngsters within their village or neighborhood before the youth exchange. The videos will be presented during the exchange and discussed within the whole group. This will be completed by the implementation of methods from the non-formal education and/or active pedagogy linked to identity as well as the visit of a former refugee camp Rivesaltes in order to link the past and present as far as migration is concerned. This exchange also aims at participating in the intercultural dialogue by working on prejudices and stereotypes and encouraging a collective awareness regarding the current events. In order to do so the team will also use methods from the non-formal education and/or active pedagogy which will be strengthened by the fact that the participants from the four countries will live together during a whole week. This project also wants to raise awareness among youngsters about the strength of the media and the images especially within the social medias, and how images can be used in order to manipulate people. Those two topics will be tackled during two workshops about journalism with a professional journalist on one hand and theatre on the other hand. A project of this kind enhances youngsters who are involved in all the projects’ steps, from the elaboration the evaluation. It shows their sense of commitment and their determination to tackle current problematic and learn from them thanks to non-formal education. This kind of approach puts the youngster in the center of the learning process so that he or she will learn from others and about him or herself too. Implementing such a project is a way to promote intercultural approaches as tools against weaknesses and breaks into our social cohesion. Those breaks can be repaired thanks to actions at an international level implemented by partnerships among the civil society and public institutions at a local level as it is the case for our project.
