The Youth Exchange called “Refugees in Europe: Awareness, Commitment, Try!” aims to raise awareness and sensitize young people about the current issue of refugees entering the European Union. The objectives of the project are: to increase the participants’ knowledge about the topic, support a tolerant and respectful intercultural exchange among Europeans and refugees in the EU, to strengthen entrepreneurship competences of the participants as well as their motivation for active citizenship. Therefore the participants will get in touch with refugees, supporting organizations and professionals, in order to get first-hand knowledge. The activities will also include the topics non-violent communication, antidiscrimination and the situations of refugees in the participating countries. Moreover, the participants will realise a volunteer activity in Hungary to spread the values of the project. Creative, interactive and non-formal methods will be integrant part of the 9-days program. We will host in total 22 people from Hungary, Spain, Germany and Italy. The participants will be 18+ in order to have a better understanding of the complex topic . We aim to involve young people from different educational backgrounds, so that various experiences will enrich the discussions. As long-term goal we encourage the participants to implement or join volunteer activities in favour of refugees or migrants afterwards in their home country, so that the positive outcomes of the project will continue. There are multiple benefits from the project. The awareness of the issue will rise in all the participating countries through sharing the results online as well as personally. The local communities of the participants, especially refugees themselves, will benefit from the engagement of the participants during and after the Youth Exchange. We hope that the participants will gain a lot of motivation to actively make a change for better living conditions of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in general.
