The aim of the REMAI project is to set up a European Network of Museums and Collections specialised in conserving the cultural heritage of Islamic origin, using the collections held by the institutions which participate in the project, as well as the architectural structures conserved in situ in the Alhambra Monument Complex. Specific objectives:Gaining deeper material, technical, artistic, historical and sociocultural knowledge of the Islamic Heritage which these centres possess. Exchanging information and scientific experiences developed by the institutions involved.Strengthening research on Islamic art in the European union as a strategy for intercultural knowledge and integration.Transferring knowledge as a strategy for intercultural understanding of different civilisations.Designing dissemination tools and channels for the results and incorporating and producing contents through the use of new technologies.The results:Creation of a database of scientific terminology of Islamic art based on the analysis of the three collections. Creation of a Social Network Specialised in Islamic Art, as well as a Web Portal, as tools for disseminating the project results, which will guarantee large-scale knowledge transfer. The Creation of a Virtual Exhibition of Islamic Art based on a selection of the funds of the three associated centres. Organisation of a Congress which will present the results obtained to the scientific community and to society. Publication of a record, reflecting the lectures and debates in the congress.Publication of a specific book in four languages (English, French, Arabic and Spanish) about the characteristic materials of Nasrid art analysed in the project (stucco Nasrid and ceramics)Publication of a DVD with the images of the photographic collectionsA cycle of conferencesInteractive museum resources will be prepared which will help understanding of the museums' collections.
