Re-training of Unemployed People in Resort Regions for Self-Business Development

The aim of the project is to develop a course curriculum in 'Resort Business Management' for unemployed persons situated in coastal resort areas. The course curriculum aims to provide unemployed persons, specifically those with an existing academic background, with the knowledge and skills to establish their own business enterprise. Initial surveys will be undertaken in the partner countries to establish the demand for self-employed business services in resort regions and to establish the corresponding training needs of the unemployed. Information will be gathered on 'best practice' for alternative business across the selected resort regions. Project partners will develop outline curricula for those working in the provision of tourism services, childcare services and event management in addition to those working as resort guides. The developed courses will be piloted with small groups of unemployed persons in Italy and Lithuania, using a range of non-formal teaching/learning methods, to include study circles, work-based learning and project-oriented learning. Students participating in the pilots will be required to produce a business proposal for evaluation. Feedback from the pilot course participants and the project partners will influence the final development of the course modules and learning methods, with eventual course materials being produced on CD-Rom in all partner languages. A teachers' guide and a trainees' guide will also be produced to support the course modules. Social partners in the partner countries will be kept informed on the project's progress & results with a wider audience being reached via the project website. Additional dissemination will include the attendance of project partners at strategic conferences/seminars and the hosting of a final project conference.
