Quality for Crossborder practises in ecotourism (Quality-CET)

Objective of the project The aim of the Quality-CET project was to establish a unified region with recognized common nature and cultural values and methods of promotion and visitor services in the nature tourism. Main activities• Increasing tourism-related know-how and customer service capacity• Strengthening cooperation and enhancing suistainability of tourism throughout a network of four cross-border twin parks• Developing joint marketing strategy and material for international market• Developing environmental education and services for the youth Achievements: The project improved the tourism service capacity of eight Karelian nature protected areas which are all now acknowledged destinations of nature and culture tourism. With the help of project activities, visitor management and tourism in the parks are arranged in a sustainable manner with the respect of the natural and cultural values of the region. The main goals of the Quality-CET project were reached and the knowledge and customer service capacity of the personnel of the nature protected areas and local entrepreneurs was improved, by providing education, connecting possibilities and increasing the attractiveness and accessibility of the NPA´s in Karelia region, also by improving visibility and internet materials of the parks. The visibility of the NPA´s and Karelia region improved in the local, Finnish, Russian, and international markets as a nature and culture tourism destination. Through international certificates (2) and Sustainable Tourism Development Strategies (3) sustainability was increased as a key factor in developing nature and culture tourism in Karelia region.Through developed youth education camps (4) concept the youths are seen as important customers and future decision makers regarding protected areas.
