The project called Quality and Leadership. Steps towards a new perspective on Language Teaching and School Management was presented by the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Ecija (Official Language School of Ecija) as a declaration of intent to put into practice new methodology and management ideas in our school. Our project began as a result of a needs analysis of our school and we considered that it should be centered around two basic areas: - Area 1: Teaching and linguistic competence. Our linguistic competence needs to be constantly improved as language is a changing reality. Regarding teaching, we realized that there were needs in terms of finding out about the latest materials and teaching tools. We believe that all this will have a positive impact on one of the most important needs in our school, the improvement of academic results. - Area 2: Management. It is a fact that the considerable increase of students together with our teachers and non-teaching staff needs a correct management of any problems that may arise in the human and management sectors of our school. After a discussion in one of our staff meetings, we agreed that there was a need for a member of our administration, preferably our principal, to improve her competences regarding school and staff management. The participants in the Project were two: 1. Nuria González González, English teacher at the school, whose needs are to improve her linguistic competence and to implement new teaching and learning tools. 2. Inmaculada Gómez Benítez, principal, whose needs are to improve her linguistic competence and her human resources management at the school. Ms Nuria G. González atended the course Creative Teaching in the Adult Classroom in Oxford (The Lake School). This course included aspects of improvement in linguistic competence, such as reclycling and practising advanced English, plus teaching and learning techniques. There were many practical workshops related to methodology, multiple intelligences, different techniques and learning styles as well as new technology tools. Ms Inmaculada G. Benítez, English teacher and principal, atended a Professional Development, Language and Culture for Education providers course in Cardiff (Bridge International LTD). The activities included workshops on leadership, team work, professional ethics, stress management, setting of objectives and conflict resolution, as well as job shadowing practices at the school itself. Some of the visible results of our project are the improvement in our linguistic competence, new methodologies and teaching techniques and management skills therefore guaranteeing an education of quality and a substantial improvement in our school. The experiences and good practices of the project will be shared with the teachers at our school with practical workshops and by incorporating all the things that have been learned in our daily work.
