QF2TEACH - Qualified to Teach
Date du début: 1 oct. 2009,

The qualifications of teachers in Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) are considered to be of vital importance for the future-development of competing societies. Although teachers ** in ACE are the main actors who impart knowledge and skills, in most European countries a modernized, future oriented and compulsory definition of qualification-standards for this group has been widely neglected. "Teaching" - which can be considered the classical aspect of the work of most ACE professionals working in the different domains of vocational, corporate, social-cultural and expressive, and arts Adult Education - has become an ever more complex activity in the last decades: teachers increasingly need new and enhanced skills and competencies (e.g. counselling skills, intercultural skills etc.). Older initiatives to define standardized qualification frameworks for Adult Educators have not sufficiently reflected these new challenges. More modern attempts are still in a primary stage and, moreover, restricted to the national level. There have been no attempts to join these activities on the European level. The project aims to determine the core competencies needed by teachers in ACE today and in the near future by conducting an expert-panel research design (Delphi study). On the basis of the results – i.e. on the basis of what, according to the experts, teachers in ACE should be able to know and to do – we will develop different national sectorial Qualification Frameworks and a transnational Qualification Framework for teachers in ACE linked to the EQF. We will produce a whole bunch of different outputs:- A catalogue of core competencies for teachers in ACE that is empirically derived (by our Delphi study) and that covers both a transnational as well as a transsectorial (vocational / non-vocational education) dimension.- National interim reports summarizing the results of the Delphi study (published on the project’s web site).- A transnational interim report summarizing the results of the Delphi study in a transnational dimension (published on the project’s web site).- Proposals for the optimization of already existing curricula or training measures for teachers in ACE (because the Delphi study addresses the problem of how to improve the competencies of teachers in ACE).- Final national reports (published as an online document).- A final transnational report Several articles in national or international journals.- Concepts for national Qualification Frameworks for teachers in ACE.- A concept for a transnational Qualification Framework (linked to the EQF) for teachers in ACE.- Implementation approaches for the national and transnational for the concepts that we will have developed.
