Protecting Fundamental Rights in the European Union
Date du début: 1 sept. 2016, Date de fin: 31 août 2019 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The main objective of this Module is to offer to the students of the University of Vigo, the legal practitioners of the province of Pontevedra, and the Galician civil society an opportunity to approach themselves and to achieve a deep knowledge of the mechanisms for protection of Human rights in the European legal order, especially the judicial ones. The judgements from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) about eviction procedures (July 17th 2014) and about the so-called right to be forgotten (May 13th 2014) showed the evident leading role played by the ECJ in the protection of fundamental rights after the coming into force of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights (ECFR). Although the bachelor degrees in legal and social sciences in the University of Vigo count with courses dedicated to the study of the European Institutions and its legal order, these subjects are based in an introductory approach. This Module would grant an important and unique added value to the training of future lawyers and current legal administrators, allowing a specialised teaching on a European Union development and the delivering a tailor-made course on a specific EU issue relevant for graduates in their professional life: The enforcement of the ECFR of the European Union by judicial actions. This proposal’s content is interesting as well for the students of the Master in Legal Practice. In Spain, solicitors and barristers must show knowledge of the European Judicial System. Also, it would be relevant for current professionals looking to update their knowledge and skills through an emerging European issue. Furthermore, it would be the first time in Galicia that it is delivered a tailor-made course on this subject. Hence, it is an opportunity for fostering the development of new teaching, research and debating activities, allowing us to promote and give visibility to this European issue at the University of Vigo but outside as well.
