Promoting Volunteering in Bratislava Region
Date du début: 1 janv. 2015, Date de fin: 29 févr. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Context of the project: Even though there is quite large number of organizations supporting volunteering in Bratislava, since 2002 there was no place where potential volunteers and foreigners living in Bratislava willing to volunteer could come and actually find a volunteer opportunity. The only way they could do so – till September 2013 was the website dobrovolnictvo.sk. Everybody who is willing to volunteer can register there and look for the right volunteering opportunity in the database created by NGOs looking for volunteers that is available there as well. Even though this system works for many people, there is still quite a large group of people (e.g. seniors, people with no access to internet or foreigners living in Slovakia) who are not using it that efficiently. In addition to that, dobrovolnictvo.sk is only offering the space where NGOs can look for volunteers and vice versa. There is no check for quality of volunteer management, no tracking whether the organizations looking for volunteers were successful in their search or not, volunteers with no experience in volunteering have only limited opportunity to get their questions answered before they register. In order to solve all these issues and provide more tailored services to volunteers, potential volunteers, and volunteer involving organizations, there was the Bratislava Volunteer Centre (BVC) established and opened in 2013. There is one full-time and one part-time employee working in the Centre doing their best to cover all tasks related to the activities of BVC, but the involvement of an EVS volunteer would enable them to do more for the development of volunteering in Bratislava. Objectives of the project: Through this project we wanted to contribute to the personal development of an EVS volunteer, to the development of services of BVC and the strengthening of local communities in Bratislava and Bratislava region. The project objectives were following: 1. To meet the needs of the EVS volunteer participating in the project and through his/her involvement into various BVC activities contribute to his/her carrier and personal development. 2. To promote volunteering within communities and foreign volunteers living in Bratislava region. 3. To organize various activities for wide public and NGOs during the involvement of the EVS volunteer and involve at least 50 local especially young volunteers into volunteer events in Bratislava region. 4. To create a database of foreigners living in Bratislava region who are willing to volunteer. 5. To improve the PR activities and materials of BVC through fresh approach of young people. The proposed project provided a long term volunteering service to an EVS volunteer coming from France. It contributed to the personal and professional development of the volunteer and supported her tolerance, cultural awareness, understanding of diversity, communication and team work related skills. In addition to that, it helped the volunteer to use her specific abilities during the activities organized within the project run. The main responsibility of the EVS volunteer was focused on preparation and organization of various public events, PR and communication materials and events for volunteers in Bratislava and Bratislava region, volunteer coordinators coming from different NGOs, as well as to support the engagement of foreigners living in Bratislava region into volunteering. This helped to strengthen the active participation of people – especially young people – in the life of their communities and become active citizens. There was one volunteer involved into this project. The ultimate goal of the project was focused on the personal and professional development of the volunteer involved in Bratislava Volunteer Center through her involvement into day-to-day activities of the BVC. The organization stimulated learning experiences, and helped the volunteer to develop skills and attitudes through the engagement of various activities. At the same time, the BVC provided the volunteer with the space for reflection in order to facilitate the recognition and validation of learning. There are various competences the volunteer acquired and we hope it will strengthen the employability of the volunteer and support career development of the volunteer in the future.
