Promoting Employability and Citizenship Enhancement

Since 2007, SRC has secured European funding through the EU Lifelong learning programme for 50 EU projects that have enabled almost 800 staff and students to secure work placements and study visits across Europe. The College believes that participating in mobility projects results in life changing experiences for participants.
The main objective of the PEACE project is to enhance the employability, raise self esteem and further develop the skills of 60 level 2-3 SRC students by enabling them to participate in carefully planned, professionally monitored European work placements provided through the ERASMUS + programme.
The objectives of PEACE mirror those set down in the t the ERASMUS + guidelines:
1 Supporting learners in the acquisition of competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) with a view to improving their personal
development and employability in the European labour market
2 Enhancing the participants' foreign languages competencies
3 Raising participant's awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries
4 Developing a sense of European citizenship and identity.
The majority of students will be from areas of high social deprivation, from underprivileged and disadvantaged backgrounds who have never been outside of N.I before and who without ERASMUS + would never have had the opportunity to engage in work placements in Europe. The cross- cultural and community relations aspects of the project cannot be underestimated as many of these young people have never engaged with individuals from outside their local communities that are generally segregated.
Partnership agreements with commonly agreed goals are already in place with host partners in Italy and Germany. SRC believes these strong partnerships as well at the College's quality assurance controls will ensure that the project targets will be met and participants will experience life changing work placements.
Engagement in this project will enable students to develop a range of skills that make them more employable and more confident of their abilities to contribute to society. They will develop communication and organisational skills, as well as time management, money management and independence. The project will allow them to achieve qualifications and will provide them with opportunities to apply their vocational skills acquired on their courses of study in European settings. The project will enable participants to put knowledge into practice and also enhance their language skills. It will therefore give them the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and experience in a global context and gain an insight into the world of work and so enhancing their personal and professional development.
This project will help SRC meet it's key strategic objective of "promoting an outward and forward looking College" through the development of European links.
