Violence against women crosses all socio-economic levels, age, groups, races, religions and countries. Studies reveal that in Europe at least one in every four women has been beaten or otherwise abused in their lifetimes. Despite the increased attention to the issue and many positive developments in policy and practice, violence against women is still widespread and has not led yet to a common European educational approach. PACT builds on the experience gathered in the premium assessed Grundtvig 1.1 project BACKGROUND dealing with the development of a Grundtvig training aiming at improving competences of adult education staff in the area of domestic violence (DV). From the general feedback derives that, although being recognised as important, there is a huge amount of reluctance to get involved with the topic. On the other hand, those people who have already gained some experience signalled a lack of training opportunities focussing on their fields of activities to help them to better cope with situations in which they are confronted with cases of DV. PACT intends to fill this identified gap now by providing educational services and training specifically assigned to staff members of institutions that potentially come in contact with victims of DV.PACT addresses professionals in education and vocational training as multipliers as well as those target groups that deliver informal learning to the victims in the so called supply chain – which is in fact the whole chain of services offered to victims from medical to psychological care, shelter, legal consultancy and empowerment. Since those services are still scattered among different suppliers, a general competence development is the means of choice to develop a European adult learning pact focused on informal learning for stakeholders in the supply chain. Consequently, PACT puts its focus on those staff members who care (and deliver informal learning) for the survivors in the most critical and vulnerable situations such as trainers, teachers, police staff, social workers in public administration and NGOs. This training will support them - to develop and improve their knowledge about DV- to develop skills on how to cope with situations of DV- to increase awareness of the varied forms of abuse and the implied consequences on the victims and on the society- to learn how to assess the risk in an abusive situation- to share their knowledge with and learn from others- to build a larger European network with complementary expertise The main objective is to sustainably improve the support chain of women survivors of violence all over Europe with the main purpose to support a larger number of women survivors of violence all over Europe.To this end a comprehensive training approach consisting of blended learning elements will be developed, tested and disseminated. The use of ICT will promote the exchange of experience on a European level and provide support to the various stakeholders.The project’s main outputs:- Design and tool kit for training aiming at promoting the improvement of intervention models and the collaboration and networking among stakeholders- Implementation and documentation of pilot training - Good practice examples for successful intervention and cooperation The product development is complemented by awareness-raising activities among stakeholders in various educational fields in Europe. To this end a range of dissemination products will be developed and distributed, including a project website, flyer, newsletters, project presentations, and media publications.The project’s approach to develop training modules for trainers and staff of those organisations that are actively involved in the support chain of victims of DV not only fills the gap of training offers but also creates awareness for the phenomenon, thus improving the support for victims of DV.
