As the number of people engaged in mobility and migration in Europe and in the world is increasing so does the diversity of the societies we are living in. In order to build inclusive, democratic and prosperous societies we should pay attention and invest in empowering and integrating young people and migrants and other social categories that could make a difference in the process of development. From recent studies we find that young migrants or naturalized migrants tend to involve less than the local population in politics and civic activities and have far more chances to be affected by social exclusion than other social categories. Political participation and civic involvement remains in large lines nationally-bounded but evolves rapidly into transnational or global forms of participation and involvement as people develop economic, social and political ties to more than one state or society. The main objective of the project is to make immigrants better understand the necessity of their political and civic participation and develop with them ideas and practices which will increase and foster their involvement. It is important that they understand how their lives would benefit from an enhanced participation in the political and associative life of the state/region where they have been naturalized. An important access falls on humanitarian initiatives, for example helping the homeless people, the unemployed, single mothers, young people in need and other migrants. The project will involve 30 young people from the two partners countries with ages from 18 to 30, with a migration experience or which have been naturalized in their migration country, with or without experience in civic or political participation, with or without a university background, and with a medium level of proficiency in English. They will be involved in discussions, exercises, courses, brainstorming sessions and other social activities in which through non-formal and formal methods of learning provided by the trainers they will exchange experiences and take part in educational activities that will equip them with the tools of participating in civic and political activities, learning values of democracy and political pluralism, better understanding society, knowing better their rights as European citizens, and become more socially tolerant. The project will take part in the period from the 1st of June 2014 to the 1st of November 2014, in Romania, in the city of Cluj-Napoca, a major youth-hub for central-eastern Europe and the future Youth Capital of Europe in 2015, and an important university center with many attractions and facilities. The relevant topics addressed by the project are migrant integration, active participation in civic and political life, humanitarian initiatives of active citizens. The long term benefits of the project is that it will contribute to the education and formation of involved and active young citizens, in their country of origin and in their country of destination, and to more inclusive and active societies, capable of facing the challenges of a more mobile and interconnected world.
