The content of the course in Portugal enables participants to acquire the skills in a European project management. For our school it is the priority to cooperate with different schools of a similar orientation in the EU. The direct contact with participants from the European Union offers the opportunity to improve communicative competences, to understand culture, traditions of different countries and provides variety of knowledge of European countries and removes barriers of stereotypes and prejudice. Moreover, the aim of seminars is to be learned how to manage economical and financial tasks of cross-cultural projects and to know the possibilities of project monitoring, evaluation and dissemination of project results. This intercultural training course afford the opportunities to meet potential partners and brings a new dimmension in learning English and new ways in didactics and methodology of special subjects. Course summary: - an overview of the relevant European funded programs - sources of information and helpful indicators to analyze the information about project planning, development and management - partner search strategies - project financial management - monitoring of project - evaluation, dissemination and valorization strategies - common problems and how to avoid them - intercultural communication strategies - gaining positive attitudes to different cultures in the European Union - questions on the European Union citizenship During the workshops and work on simulated projects all participants have a chance to verify teoretical knowledge in a form of discussion, meeting, role play, and interactive poster sessions. Secondary Vocational Wood School decided to send the school director and teacher of vocational subjects and informatics for training in Portugal based on their previous experience of working on various projects. Mr. Igor Sestak is the director of the school and experienced teacher. Jan Pavol is an experienced teacher with many years of experience. Because of English language learning in their spare time, they are competent to participate in this training, which communication language is English. They are the most suitable to relevantly transmit the obtained knowledge to their colleagues and students as well as to transform them into learning and training courses of this school. Because the school has an interest to realize the project in cooperation with other secondary vocational schools in the EU, particularly in the fields offered, are these teachers the most appropriate, because of their skills of the individual departments. Another reason for their predisposition for this course is their knowledge of IKT, which are currently necessary competence. Proficiency in working with the media will facilitate communication, allow better school, region and Slovakia presenting at the international level. At first, we expect that the participation of our teachers will be beneficial for the development and the progress of our school. In a short time we want to use gained information for preparation and implementation of cross-cultural project. Successful realization of project and establishing of cooperation with schools of the same branches of study we can offer to our future students opportunity to compare their acquired knowledge and skills with students in the EU. Thanks to projects school can also offer to students a chance to improve their communication in English because they will face authentic situations in real environment and they can develop their language competence. Pupils broden their horizons not only in the field of education, language, communication and culture or understanding of society and interpersonal relationships but they will also get a new perspective of their own personal development. Experiences obtained in project work, new information and better communication abilities help our students to find employment not only in Slovakia but they will also be successful in a European labour market. Simultaneously they will obtain cross-cultural competences and adopt values of tolerance and cooperation. The contribution of the course for each participant lies in the development of his communication but especially in getting new contacts for various European secondary schools and finally work together on cross-cultural project. Furthermore this course will provide appropriate information related to project management and project financial management which are relevant for further progress of our school. In the context of cooperation with other teachers from different European cultures participants gain knowledge of history, culture, traditions and society and develop their potential and personality.
