Project VI
Date du début: 1 févr. 2015, Date de fin: 30 avr. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Originally project VI was a two part training course that looked to expand the opportunities available for blind and VI (visually impaired) young people in Europe to access international non-formal education activities. However, the second part was then cancelled which allowed us to focus on a bigger event for the finale of this event. We had noticed that there were great organisations working with blind and VI young people, but not active at the international level. Also, there are great organisations delivering international work, but lacked the experience in working with and engaging young people with impairments. Our project aimed to demonstrate both the theoretical and administration aspects of developing a project as well as teaching the practicalities of delivering a project with blind and VI young people. During the training, participants learned how to plan, create and adapt sessions to include both sighted and impaired young people. They learned how to risk assess activities and provide the support that is needed to make the projects inclusive. They learned how to apply for Erasmus Plus projects and started planning to host an activity in their home country. The event finale was the Victa weekend, where our participants were given a chance to apply the theory and skill they've developed directly with visually impaired young people. At this event, families of blind and VI children came together were children were provided with a range of activities around outdoor education. Participants supported the activities with the visually impaired to be supported (this is supervised by professionals). During the weekend there was also the opportunity for the participants to attend the talk delivered by professionals around the latest developments and policies for supporting blind and VI people. Initially, the second part of the training was going to be the implementation of skills with outdoor education based in Romania. As this was cancelled, we tried to incorporate some of the original ideas into this course such as risk assessment training as well as encouraging participants to apply for such projects in their countries.
