PROJET
TERMINÉ
Pre-production process in an interdisciplinary design and prototype
Construction
The project originator was Zespol Szkol Plastycznych (ZSP) - School of Fine Arts in Czestochowa - an artistic–vocational secondary school, educating in specialisations of utilitarian forms: ceramics, jewellery and utilitarian graphics – publishing forms, and the partner was Ceramic Training Centre – Cencal in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. The project was created in the context of the absence of changes in the core curriculum in artistic secondary education, which, contrary to European partners, treats utilitarian design more artistically than strictly in an utilitarian way.
The main objective of the project was to familiarise with the work methods in pre-production process, starting from bringing the topic for a prototype and finishing with the promotion of a new product brand (branding) in an interdisciplinary group of designers. The participants of the project were 20 students of ZSP, specialising in: graphic design,
jewellery, ceramics, and 2 accompanying persons. The participants got to know the issues of economics, ergonomics, methodology, technology of materials, technologies, and carried out an analysis starting from initial sketches and finishing with 3D visualisations.
The realized tasks concerned: identification of needs, selection of participants, project application, definition of the objectives and implementation conditions of the project, arrangement of financing, participants’ preparation for the placement, travel arrangement and mobility project realisation, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and dissemination.
The outcome of the project is a prototype with its documentation, product license, and a brand book necessary for the new product, as well as gaining skills of accomplishing tasks, adaptation to the labour market, cooperation with a specialist, controlling the task realization in time. The next result is raising linguistic competences /especially in terms of professional terminology/ and intercultural and personal competences.
After completion of the placement, on 14th October and 6th December 2015, the school organised two disseminating meetings with representatives of local plants, indicating our willingness to cooperate in the product design.
The placement was a new and avant-garde experience in interdisciplinary product design. It will help young designers to function better in the European labour market and awake the need of lifelong enriching their knowledge with elements of the latest technologies, as well it will contribute to a fuller, pro-European, and more dynamic personal development of participants.
For the initiator - ZSP, this experience which will bring about changes in the methods of educating, so that diploma projects were ready materials for implementation in the production. In this way, indirectly, through the presentation and dissemination of the project outcomes, owners of local plants, as a new target group, will open up to the cooperation, which in turn will result in further potential long-term benefits. For the partner institution, these will be innovative opportunities to present their services, artistic activities, and opening up to the eastern parts of Europe. The project was realised during a three-week placement in the above mentioned institution at the turn of June and July 2015.
